The Renault Trucks DE13 R is a new 13 litre engine developed for the 2027 model year T, T High, C and K ranges. It delivers up to 540 hp and maximum torque of up to 2,800 Nm.
The engine forms part of a complete powertrain incorporating a new generation Optidriver gearbox, Optivision+ predictive cruise control, Predictive Engine Stop Start and vehicle aerodynamic improvements.
The new generation can reduce fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions by up to 4% compared with the previous generation.

Stronger engine materials and greater cylinder pressure
The DE13 R uses high strength grey iron and compacted graphite iron within its construction. These materials provide the strength required to manage higher internal pressures while supporting engine robustness and durability.
The increased pressure works alongside revised combustion and fuel delivery systems to allow the engine to extract more useful energy from the fuel and reduce avoidable energy losses.
More precise fuel delivery
The DE13 R uses a new fuel supply system with an external high pressure fuel pump. The system improves control over fuel injection, including the timing and quantity of fuel delivered to the cylinders. Precise injection helps the engine manage combustion effectively as engine speed and load change. This contributes to efficient fuel use, responsive power delivery and emissions control.
Engine management and combustion
The DE13 R’s engine management systems continually monitor and control the combustion process. Fuel delivery, air supply and engine load must remain in sync as road conditions change.
More powerful Optibrake+ engine braking

New generation Optidriver gearbox
The DE13 R is paired with a new generation of Renault Trucks Optidriver automated gearboxes that allow changes to be completed up to 20% faster than with the previous generation. Faster changes reduce makes effective use of the engine’s torque and delivers a smooth drive.
Optivision+ predictive cruise control
Optivision+ uses topographical data and road sign information to prepare the vehicle for the route ahead. The system can adapt gear changes, acceleration and vehicle speed before the truck reaches an approaching gradient, crest or descent. This predictive approach allows the vehicle to manage momentum by coordinating engine and gearbox with the road aheadwhist contributing to lower fuel use.
Predictive Engine Stop Start
Predictive Engine Stop Start works with the vehicle’s predictive cruise control systems. During suitable freewheeling phases in Optiroll, the system can automatically switch off the engine and restart when required.
