Big changes are coming to London’s Direct Vision Standards in 2024.
If you operate in or around London, you need to be ready for Transport for London (TFL)’s major update to Direct Vision Standards (DVS) in October 2024 that will impact all vehicles over 12 tonnes GVW.
What it means for you
Starting from 28 October 2024, all vehicles over 12 tonnes will need a minimum 3-star rating, or risk penalty charges.
If your vehicle’s rating is zero, one, or two stars, you’ll need to add a ‘Progressive Safe System’ (PSS) for operating in London, or face a fine. PSS includes assistive technologies that improve road safety, and it’s down to the operator to ensure that their equipment for indirect vision, including blind spot and moving off information systems, is fully operational.

How it works
1. Moving off information system (MOIS)
A front AI sensor that detects people in front of the vehicle and alerts the driver as the vehicle starts to move forward.
2. Blind spot information system (BSIS)
An AI sensor that detects people along the nearside of the vehicle and alerts the driver without false alerts.
3. Left-turn audible alert
An intelligent speaker warning people when they’re in danger and too close to the vehicle.
